Congratulations to Ericsson Hatfield, the winner of our 2022 Young Composers Competition!
Eric is 27 years old and hails from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He has a bachelor’s degree in music performance from NYU and a masters in music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. His song cycle, “God’s World,” for solo voice and piano, won first place in the 2022 National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Art Song Composition Competition.
His new work, “Mining the Sunshine,” sets the eponymous poem by Amos Russel Wells. The composer says, “Wells’s work takes on a strikingly prophetic role as mankind faces the
existential threat of climate change as a consequence of its energy needs. The viability
of solar power supporting our society has taken center stage….This work takes on a hopeful tone
with its forward driving pedal tones and fanning harmonies that spread like sun rays.”
The World Premiere of this new piece will be on October 8. Please join us!
